Local Entrepreneurs Fueling Cape Cod With Renewable Biodiesel
Two Cape business owners turned a fuel problem into a cleaner way to heat homes and power fleets. We collect used cooking oil from local restaurants and refine it into renewable Bioheat and biodiesel, right here in Sandwich.
From a Fuel Bill to a Renewable Fuel Company
In 2006, Andrew Davison and Jim Chace were running their own construction and excavation companies on the Cape. The work paid the bills, but the rising cost of diesel was eating their margins. So the two friends started researching biodiesel, a cleaner-burning fuel they could make themselves. With some ingenuity and a few friends in the restaurant business, they began collecting waste cooking grease from local kitchens and refining it into low-cost, high-quality fuel for their own trucks.
That small idea became a small plant, and in 2008 Cape Cod Biofuels was born. Today we run a 12,000-square-foot production and recycling facility in Sandwich. We partner with more than 1,000 restaurants across Cape Cod and the South Shore, collect roughly one million gallons of used cooking oil every year, and refine it into renewable biodiesel and Bioheat. That fuel goes right back out to homes and commercial fleets in the same communities it came from, so 100% of the oil we collect locally stays local.
We are the only ASTM-certified producer of biodiesel in Massachusetts, which means our fuel meets every government quality standard. We are members of the National Biodiesel Board and the Massachusetts Restaurant Association. The company has grown a lot since 2008, but the mission has not changed: make a local product, deliver the friendly and reliable service you expect from a small business, and help keep Massachusetts green.
Waste Cooking Oil In, Renewable Heat Out
Most fuel companies pull oil from far away and ship it in. We do the opposite. Every gallon we deliver starts in a kitchen a few towns over, which keeps dollars, jobs, and cleaner air right here on the Cape and South Shore.
We Collect
Our trucks pick up used cooking oil and grease from more than 1,000 restaurant partners across the region, on a schedule that keeps their kitchens clean and compliant.
We Refine
At our Sandwich facility we process that oil into ASTM-certified biodiesel, the only certified biodiesel produced in Massachusetts, then blend it into cleaner-burning Bioheat.
We Deliver
That renewable fuel goes back out to home heating customers, commercial and marine fleets, and construction sites throughout the area.
It Stays Local
Because we source, refine, and deliver inside the same communities, the loop closes here. Cleaner fuel, lower emissions, and a local company you can actually reach on the phone.

Cape Cod Biofuels is still run by the two people who started it. They live in Sandwich, they know the routes, and they answer for the work.
Andrew Davison
Co-FounderAndrew is a 1994 graduate of Norwich University with a degree in Computer Information Systems and a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He serves on the boards of the Massachusetts Energy Marketers Association and Sustainable Advanced Biofuel Refiners. He lives in Sandwich with his wife and children, coaches youth football, and is an avid outdoorsman.
Jim Chace
Co-FounderJim is a 1982 graduate of Apponequet Regional High School in Lakeville. A machinist by trade, he can fabricate just about anything, a skill that built much of the production equipment in the Sandwich plant. He spent more than twenty years in the family excavation business, is a proud father of two, and is a long-time Sandwich resident.
